Meet the Team
SPARK is made up of a team of four researchers, comprising the principal investigator, two research fellows and a PhD student.

Principal Investigator
Marc Geddes
Dr Marc Geddes is Principal Investigator of SPARK, coordinating the overall project. He is also leading on the German case studies for the project. His previous research has centred on how parliaments use evidence in committee settings, and has a wider background in research parliamentary accountability (especially in the UK context).

Research Fellow
Ewan Robertson
Ewan has responsibility for data collection on the Spanish and Catalan parliaments, and advises on welfare policy across the project. Ewan’s expertise includes the comparative analysis of the politics of welfare reform, the role of ideas and evidence in policymaking, and a substantive focus on social security, labour market policy and in-work poverty.

Research Fellow
Matt Johnston
Matt has responsibility for data collection on the UK and Scottish parliaments, and advises on environmental policy across the project. Matt's expertise includes socio-technical transitions, financial and economic policy, and environmental governance. He has also done extensive work on parliamentary oversight and policymaking in the Global South.

Doctoral Researcher
Marie Bruyndonckx
Marie is a PhD student responsible for data collection on health policy matters in the European Parliament. She has experience conducting research on the Scottish Parliament, the European Union, and the politics of infectious diseases.
