Ewan's research has been recognised with an award from the Social Policy Association (SPA). The SPA - a society and charity aiming to advance the teaching, research and dissemination of knowledge in the field of social policy - present annual awards recognising the work of academics who are researching, teaching and advancing the discipline.

Ewan, who will join SPARK on 2 September, won the Excellence in Doctoral Research award for his paper ‘Puzzling over Powering? Explaining In-Work Benefit Trajectories in France and the United Kingdom, 1990s – 2020s’. This is awarded to a doctoral research student who presents a paper at the previous year’s SPA conference which is considered as an example of excellence in social policy scholarship.
